Since then, Monacobreen has been the mandatory, crown jewel destination of every northern exploration we conduct in Spitsbergen.
In this raw, wild beauty, you can completely forget about the rest of the world. The omnipresent Arctic silence is interrupted only by the deep, threatening rumble of cracking ice and the sounds of whale pods.
Trekking with a View of Ice Craters
The shores of Liefdefjorden near the glacier are relatively gentle, making them an excellent spot for safe Zodiac landings. After stepping ashore, you can hike toward the glacier front, and more importantly—climb the surrounding hills.
Monacobreen viewed from above is one of the most incredible sights on our planet. From this perspective, its full structure is revealed: thousands of ice peaks, packed blocks, craters, deep crevasses, and frozen lakes. This unearthly panorama is reason enough to make the long and demanding journey to the far North.
