Bear Meat, Deeply Frozen

Arctic Sailing Training

The Arctic is one of the most beautiful regions for sailing. On the other hand, it is a challenging area that allows you to acquire many sailing skills and huge experience. The frequently changing weather, icy conditions, low temperatures, venturing beyond mapped areas, polar night – these are conditions in which you cannot only experience a fantastic adventure but also test yourself and confront your existing skills.

Here, you can find true ‘bear meat,’ which is often harder to consume in cold conditions than anywhere else.
Our voyages and expeditions are led by experienced captains. One of them, leading a voyage near the North Pole, set a new record for Poland in sailing north, reaching 84 degrees 17 minutes north latitude. During our expeditions, we chart new routes through places not found on maps; we have circumnavigated Svalbard and Spitsbergen multiple times, sailed in winter in the Nordkapp region, and led hundreds of voyages in the Arctic. We have navigated through ice many times, reaching the fronts of numerous glaciers and breaking through ice fields.
As a result, we have experience and highly practical knowledge. Our captains are professional sailors.

S/y Azimuth, on which most of our voyages take place, has been the northernmost expedition yacht for years. It spends another year in the Arctic. Thanks to the shipowner’s years of hard work, it is a well-maintained vessel, very well-equipped with various systems allowing safe and self-sufficient survival in the far North.
In result, participants of our expeditions can experience what sailing is like in this area.

As part of our trips, you can train your skills in many areas of sailing knowledge, including:
– safety procedures
– sailing in polar night (Norway)
– practical application of the rules of the way at sea
– navigational lights at sea (Norway)
– ice navigation (Svalbard)
– practical meteorological knowledge
– navigation in uncharted waters (Svalbard expeditions)
– tidal navigation
– docking maneuvers with a 40-tonne steel yacht
– operation of navigation equipment (AIS, radar, Raymarine and Garmin plotters)
– yacht maintenance
– organization of the voyage and life on an expedition yacht

Sailing is our passion and life. Over the years, we have acquired knowledge and experience, expanding our skills through continuous training and confronting theoretical knowledge with practice on challenging seas and in various situations. We enjoy sharing this knowledge and are able to do so because we have been training generations of sailors for years.
After our voyages, we provide those interested with sailing testimonials documenting their acquired experience.
In addition to sailing trips, every year we organize 2-3 expeditions to the North, during which we sail beyond the maps towards the North Pole, charting new routes to places few people have been before.
We sail in northern Norway, Svalbard, and Greenland.
